The history of the Carlton goes back to the 1950s. Father Harry Koene was a gardener and at some point had some space available for another crop in his greenhouse. His choice fell on daffodils. The weather conditions were very bad that year and the real narcissi growers for a large part grabbed the harvest. Due to the limited supply father Koene received an excellent compensation for "his" Carlton.
To give a different meaning to his gardener's life, a flower shop / garden center was established in 1972. The name of the company was obvious: The Carlton, after the species name of the daffodils that brought him so much prosperity. The cheeky, bright yellow daffodil in the logo therefore, years later, still has a special meaning.
